1 July is National Currency Day in Uzbekistan. The national currency of Uzbekistan is the soum. On this day, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan the Sum was put into circulation as the single means of payment in the country.
In 1994, paper banknotes in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 soums and coins were put into circulation.
The national currency has been an important factor in ensuring the country's economic stability. The purchasing power of the sum increases as a result of the increasing volume of domestically produced goods in the domestic market, ensuring a balance between consumer goods and cash money.
The national currency is a source of pride for our people and serves as an important tool for further increasing Uzbekistan's potential.
